Visual Arts

Visual Arts at ÀÇÓÑÉçÇø gives students an opportunity to express their creativity using many different mediums. All classes have a weekly art lesson and during that session, student’s imagination will be challenged, personal expression will be encouraged, and art skills and techniques will be developed. Students create and make artworks using their ideas, experiences and creativity.

The components of art that will be covered include drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, collage, sculpture and clay. The six elements of art, line, shape, colour, texture, form and value underpin all activities. Our students also study art appreciation and discuss, evaluate and respond to their own artwork and the artworks of other people and cultures.

Ongoing school displays, the Visual Arts blog and community art competitions, provide opportunities to showcase the talents of our students.

Learning in Visual Arts involves students making and responding to artworks, drawing on the world as a source of ideas. Students engage with and develop knowledge of visual arts, skills, techniques and processes, and use materials as they explore a range of forms and styles.

Through Visual Arts, students learn to reflect on their own experiences and respond to the work of artists, craftspeople and designers and to develop their own arts’ knowledge. They learn, with growing sophistication, to express and communicate experiences through and about visual arts.

The Curriculum is structured around four areas which all involve responding to art and making art.

Exploring and Expressing Ideas – about artworks students view and make.

Visual Arts Practices – developing skills and techniques when planning and designing artworks.

Presenting and Performing – creating, discussing and analysing artworks and considering the artist’s intentions.

Responding and Interpreting – evaluating, interpreting and reflecting upon the meaning, beliefs and values in artworks.
